Job Title:              Teen Prevention Coordinator- TANF

Summary: The Teen Prevention Coordinator will have the primary responsibility of coordinating projects, workshops, resources and activities specifically for teenagers ages 13-18 years old who are on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). The Nooksack Indian Tribe’s, TANF Program is to promote and support Tribal children and their families in reaching their full potential in becoming healthy, productive and self-sufficient. This will be offered in a way that protects and benefits the Tribal children, respect and preserve thief culture, values and traditions, gives families access as well as input into the full range of programs and services to promote their self esteem, independence and self sufficiency.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Work with TANF Teens to address individual needs to become healthy, contributing citizens to break the cycle of generational poverty.

2.      Plan, coordinate and facilitate Group Sessions, Work Shops, Cultural activities and family activities and other teen events/activities in an organized manner.

3.      Coordinate life skills classes for teens such as; dating violence awareness, career exploration, cyber abuse, financial literacy, respect, cultural awareness, drug and alcohol prevention, nutrition, assertiveness training, etc.

4.      Work with other TANF staff to coordinate and implement projects for the teens effectively and successfully.

5.      Transport clients as needed.

6.      Track Program goals, objectives, and clients progress.

7.      Coordinate referral efforts with other agencies, and Tribal programs/resources such as ; Mental health counseling, dental, tutoring, etc.

8.      Develop and attain goal and measurable outcomes.

9.      Any other duties as assigned by the Director

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an employee must perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily, and possess the required skills. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

 Must have the ability to work closely with many disciplines and address the needs of a broad population. Ability to prioritize and to coordinate multiple services. Excellent written and verbal communication skills updated. Current basic computer skills are essential.

 Valid Washington State driver’s license required and must clear a background check to work with youth.

 

Education and Experience

High School Diploma with a least 2 years of work experience in a related field.

Experience working with Native American Youth.
