Job Title:                Medical Billing Intern

Summary:

The Medical Billing Intern will be trained in collecting, posting and managing account payments; as well as submitting claims and following up with insurance companies.

 

Desirable Skills:

·         Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.

·         Knowledge of computer programs.

·         Knowledge of business office procedures.

·         Knowledge of basic medical coding and third party operating procedures and practices.

·         Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.

·         Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system.

·         Skill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.

·         Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions.

·         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.

·         Must be well organized and detail oriented.

 

Identified Training Areas:

·         Preparing and submitting clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.

·         Answering questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.

·         Identifying and resolving patient billing complaints.

·         Preparing, reviewing, and sending patient statements.

·         Evaluating patient’s financial status and establishing budget payment plans. Following and reporting status of delinquent accounts.

·         Reviewing accounts for possible assignment and making recommendations to the MBO Manager, also preparing information for the collection agency.

·         Performing daily backups on office computer system.

·         Performing various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to their party payers.

·         Processing payments from insurance companies.

·         Participating in education activities and attending staff meetings.

·         Conducting self in accordance with the Nooksack Indian Tribe’s Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.

·         Maintaining strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED

 

Physical Demands:

Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity needed for using a calculator and computer keyboard.
