Contact Information
The main function of the Enrollment Department:
-
to provide information regarding the
enrollment process and criteria for enrollment.
-
processing of enrollment applications
-
keep records & statistics for all
members of the tribe
-
assist in SOME research
Members have access through this department to some old family trees and probate
information, information regarding tribal land status reports, and tribal
identifications.
Please
keep in mind that this office doesn't do research. The burden of proof is
on the applicant, which means the applicant must provide the enrollment
department sufficient information to prove Nooksack lineage for enrollment.
We will assist with some research but if it is not found in our tribal records
we will not look into it any further.
Enrollment Process
The Nooksack Tribe does enrollment on a quarterly basis (every 3 months).
Enrollment applications must be submitted
to the enrollment office on the following timeline for 2007:

The review dates may vary from time to time as
council sometimes has the need to reschedule meetings. The review dates
are usually within the same month.
Keep in mind that if there is
an abundance of enrollment applications to process at the time of the deadline,
a 30 day processing time will come into effect from the deadline date above
before it is reviewed by Tribal Council.
If a person would like to become a member of the
Nooksack Tribe, he/she must first meet the
Membership Criteria
.
Individuals can obtain an
application by mail, fax, phone or by simply clicking on this Enrollment
Application
link. He/she fills out
the application and returns it with the proper documentation to the Enrollment
Department via mail or fax. The Enrollment Department then looks over the
application and family tree to determine if there is Nooksack lineage and that
all criteria for enrollment are met. If all enrollment criteria have been
met the application is forwarded to the Nooksack Tribal Council for acceptance
by resolution or denial.
Enrollment applications are brought to the Tribal
Council once per month. The person is then contacted
by certified mail on the decision.
All
applicants that are rejected are given 30 days to file an appeal.
